You can find most public golf courses along 28 miles of coastline that stretches from the Quivira Golf Club, a few miles west of downtown Cabo San Lucas, to the Puerto Los Cabos golf course, a few miles east of San José del Cabo. If you are a member, you can also join the fun at noteworthy private courses like El Cardonal, designed by Tiger Woods.
More than a dozen courses with challenging layouts dot the landscape, featuring both coastal and desert terrain. Here’s a homeowner’s guide to some of our favorite golfing destinations in the Los Cabos area.
This sprawling Cabo del Sol golf resort, located along the Sea of Cortéz, has two courses: the Desert Course designed by Tom Weiskopf and the Cove Club Course designed by Jack Nicklaus. The Desert Course has an inland layout featuring 180-degree views of the sea and different levels of elevation.
Since opening in 1994, the Cove Club Course (formerly known as the Ocean Course) has set the bar for the Los Cabos golf experience. It features oceanfront views for over a mile along the Sea of Cortéz. Both courses can accommodate all levels of play.
Cabo Real is a must-play golf destination for those visiting and living in Los Cabos. Designed by Robert Trent Jones, Jr., this 6,988-yard course is located in the Cabo Real development off of Highway 1 in the tourist corridor. Cabo Real has hosted several prestigious golf events, including two PGA Senior Slams. With both seaside and mountain holes, the views are phenomenal. The Cabo Real Golf Club is part of a 2,800-acre resort and residential project with 3.2 miles of beachfront.
Just minutes from downtown Cabo San Lucas, the Cabo San Lucas Country Club was designed by a father-and-son team of golf-course architects, Roy Dye and son Matt. The course is ideal for players of all skill levels, but with hole 12 and hole 14 both extending more than 500 yards, it certainly also presents a challenge for experienced golfers.
Part of the Chileno Bay Golf and Beach Club, the Chileno Bay course has impressive views of the Sierra de la Laguna Mountains and the coastline. It was designed by Tom Fazio to challenge even skilled golfers. The driving range of the course faces the Sea of Cortéz, more than enough reason to tee up there.
The 18-hole Club Campestre is another signature design by Jack Nicklaus. It’s part of a planned community located not far from the San José del Cabo International Airport. Spread across the rolling foothills of the Sierra del la Laguna Mountains, between the mountains and the sea, the various elevations of this course offer spectacular views from every hole.
Located on 1.5 miles of pristine beachfront along the Pacific Ocean in Cabo San Lucas, Diamante is spectacular. Its popular 18-hole Dunes Course boasts a dramatic dunescape, views of the sea, and bar and food stations. The Tiger Woods–designed El Cardonal opened in 2014, cementing Diamante’s status as a world-class golf destination. The course is suitable for golfers of every skill level but long enough to challenge the most expert players.
A 2016 addition to the course, the 12-hole Oasis Short Course, was also designed by Tiger Woods. Ideal for families and beginners, it has a jogging a hiking trail and a lake. The unique layout of the scenic Dunes Putting Course consists of 15 holes.
Puerto Los Cabos is a 27-hole destination golf resort. It combines 18 holes of Jack Nicklaus Signature golf in the Marina Course and nine holes of Greg Norman Signature golf in the Mission Course. Puerto Los Cabos is located in a 2,000-acre resort community on the East Cape, a short drive from the historic downtown area of San José del Cabo. The courses offer expansive panoramic views of the coastline, the sea, and the Sierra de la Laguna Mountains. All courses feature dramatic elevation changes, sculpted bunkers, and plenty of food and beverage stations, each staffed with a bartender and chef.
