Golf has become a major part of the luxury real estate story in Los Cabos.
Years ago, buyers would come into my office and the conversation was heavily focused on two things: oceanfront and ocean view.
Those things obviously still matter.
But today’s Cabo buyer is looking beyond the house itself.
They want to know about the golf course. The beach club. The restaurants. Fitness. Racquet sports. Trails. Boating. And maybe most importantly, the community of people they are going to spend their time with.
Golf has become one of the anchors around which that entire lifestyle is built.
Los Cabos now offers an incredible collection of championship golf courses and luxury golf communities. But if you’re considering buying real estate here, I think there is a better way to look at them.
Don’t simply ask which course is “best.”
Ask which community fits the way you want to live.
Diamante Cabo San Lucas
Diamante has become one of the biggest names in Cabo golf, with multiple golf experiences including El Cardonal, designed by Tiger Woods, and the Dunes Course, designed by Davis Love III.
El Cardonal was Tiger Woods’ first completed golf course design and was created to give golfers multiple ways to play each hole. The result is a course that can challenge good players without making the experience miserable for everyone else.
The Dunes Course offers a very different experience, moving through Pacific-side dunes with expansive ocean views.
But if you’re considering real estate at Diamante, the golf is only part of the equation.
You’re buying into a large resort-style community where golf, amenities and the Pacific-side Cabo lifestyle all come together.
Cabo del Sol
Cabo del Sol is one of the names that helped establish Los Cabos as a serious golf destination.
Its Jack Nicklaus-designed Ocean Course opened in the 1990s and became famous for its dramatic setting along the Sea of Cortez.
For real estate buyers, Cabo del Sol is particularly interesting because the surrounding area continues to evolve as a luxury destination.
This is an important distinction when buying in Cabo.
You’re not simply evaluating the golf course that exists today. You’re evaluating the long-term lifestyle and community developing around it.
Quivira
Quivira offers one of the most visually dramatic golf experiences in Cabo.
The Jack Nicklaus Signature course moves from lower terrain near the Pacific into higher elevations, combining desert, dunes, cliffs and ocean views.
It is unmistakably Cabo.
Quivira has also developed into a much larger residential and resort environment, making it interesting for buyers who want golf to be part of a broader lifestyle rather than the only reason for choosing the community.
Puerto Los Cabos
Puerto Los Cabos gives golfers a completely different experience on the San José del Cabo side of the market.
The golf moves through significant elevation changes with broad views toward the Sea of Cortez.
For buyers, location becomes an important part of the decision here.
Living near San José has a different rhythm than living closer to downtown Cabo San Lucas or along the Pacific side. That is exactly why I tell buyers to think beyond the golf scorecard.
Where do you want to eat?
Where do you want to spend your evenings?
How often are you going to the airport?
Do you want resort energy or something quieter?
Those questions can matter just as much as who designed the golf course.
Palmilla
Palmilla is part of the history of luxury Cabo.
Long before many of today’s newer master-planned developments existed, Palmilla had already established itself as one of the premier addresses in Los Cabos.
Its golf offering is part of a much larger lifestyle that includes one of Cabo’s most established luxury communities and a prime location along the Tourist Corridor.
For someone who wants golf but also cares deeply about location, history and an established neighborhood, Palmilla deserves serious consideration.
Querencia
Querencia represents another side of Cabo golf real estate.
This is where the private-club conversation becomes particularly important.
For many buyers at this level, golf isn’t something they want to drive somewhere to play. They want the club to become part of their daily life.
That changes the buying decision.
You’re evaluating not just a golf course, but the entire club experience, the amenities, the membership structure and whether the community itself feels like somewhere you want to belong.
And in my experience, that last part matters enormously.
The Best Cabo Golf Course Depends on the Buyer
I could rank Cabo’s golf courses from one to ten.
I don’t think that would help most of my clients very much.
A golfer who loves Diamante may want something completely different from the buyer who feels at home in Querencia. Someone who loves the established feel and location of Palmilla might not want the same experience as someone looking at Quivira.
That’s why my advice to golf buyers is usually the opposite of what they expect.
Don’t start with the house.
Start with the community.
Play the golf. Have lunch at the club. Drive the neighborhood. Spend time at the beach club. Meet some members. Understand where you are relative to the restaurants and places you enjoy.
Then start looking at houses.
Golf Has Changed Cabo Real Estate
This is part of a larger change I’ve watched happen in the Cabo luxury market.
Value used to be discussed primarily in terms of the property itself.
How big is the house?
How close is it to the water?
How good is the view?
Today, the definition of value has expanded.
Buyers are increasingly placing value on access, amenities and experiences.
A beautiful house matters. But what can your family actually do when they’re here? Where will you spend your mornings? Where will your kids and grandkids spend their afternoons? Who will you meet at the club?
Those things are difficult to put on a price-per-square-foot spreadsheet.
But they’re often exactly what makes someone fall in love with a community.
After years of selling Cabo real estate and walking properties throughout these developments, I’ve learned that finding the right house is only half of my job.
Finding where someone belongs is the other half.
